Independent Skills Classes

Skills for living independently is an issue that has  been identified by our families as a priority for emerging adults with spina bifida.  The Mayerson JCC Disability Inclusion Programs in partnership with the Center for Independent Living Options (CILO) is offering an eight-week interactive and practical class on basic skills needed to live independently. These classes will focus on housekeeping basics, healthy eating, cooking basics, emergency and safety skills, exercise, personal appearance and hygiene, money basics, and communication skills. Accessibility Training at CMC

On Wednesday, February 19th, SBCC joined several other disability support organizations and staff from Cincinnati Children's at the first Accessibility Training for the Cincinnati Museum Center. Presentation topics included attitudes of inclusion, disability etiquette, accessibility of built environment, communication and person-first language, accessible display design, and more. Gwen Elliot, Director of Community Collaborations at the Museum Center, was instrumental in planning the training, and was more than pleased with this initial event. “The almost 40 museum staff leaders in the room were challenged, fascinated, and educated. NAMI – Parent Support Group

SB parent and social worker, Jessica Petre, LISW, will be hosting a new support group through the National Alliance on Mental Illness Southwest Ohio for parents and caregivers of children under 18 years old with mental health challenges and disabilities starting this Saturday, February 8th. This support group is offered free of charge and is suitable for adults 18 and older.
