There are several options for making legal and life-changing decisions with your child once they reach the legal age of 18. One avenue growing in popularity amongst families who have a child with developmental disabilities is Supported Decision Making. Supported Decision Making is often defined as supports and services that help an adult with a disability make his or her own decisions by relying on trusted friends, family members, professionals, and others. Walk & Roll 2021

The planning committee has met and the decision was made for the Walk & Roll to be a HYBRID event this year.  What does that mean?  You will have a choice of how you wish to participate: In-Person (Plan A) or Virtual (Plan B) with the understanding that if there is a change in the status of the COVID-19 pandemic the event may be entirely virtual. Research News

We are excited to announce that SBCC and The Center for Spina Bifida (SB Clinic) have been awarded two grants to further our research focusing on transition to adulthood that we began in 2018. The Jack Rubinstein Foundation for Developmental Disabilities awarded our partnership a grant in the amount of $50,000; we were also awarded a Community Health Grant from The Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training in the amount of $20,000. These two grants will allow us to build on the results of our previous research project “Adolescents and Young Adults with Spina Bifida Transitioning to Adulthood: A Comprehensive Community-Based ...

Looking Forward in 2021

We survived 2020 and are heading into 2021 with hope!  As you are aware, since March Of 2020 Rhonda and Diane have been working remotely while continuing to provide services. Programming has been virtual including our annual Walk & Roll and holiday parties. While we certainly expect to resume in-person programming in 2021, we also must be realistic and protect those we serve from exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Transition Bootcamp 2021

Transition Bootcamp 2021 will be held virtually this year over three days, January 19 – 21, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.  The virtual conference is for family members, caregivers and professionals of youth/young adults with developmental disabilities.
