SBCC is pleased to offer NOURISH, a pilot program teaching nutrition and healthy meal preparation to adults living with spina bifida.  Participants will meet on a Tuesday evening in November, February, May, and August at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center in their metabolic kitchen and conference room for these four sessions.
At each meeting:
  • A registered dietitian from Cincinnati Children’s will teach nutrition information known to impact the health of people living with spina bifida.
  • Chef Meg from the Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State will give a cooking demonstration highlighting the information learned.
  • All will enjoy a delicious and nutritious meal together.
  • Participants will receive an insulated carry bag containing the recipe and key ingredients for three servings of the same meal to practice preparing it at home.
A field trip to Kroger’s Little Clinic is also included in the curriculum to learn about meal planning and effective shopping. In order to test the effectiveness of NOURISH, a survey will be sent after each meeting using an online tool to help understand any changes in eating habits as a result of this program.
The fee to participate is $25. Included in this fee is a SparkPeople cookbook, “Love Your Food, Lose the Weight”, written by Chef Meg, a $25 kit of kitchen essentials, an insulated carry bag and a freezer pack. If you complete all four sessions, a field trip to the Corryville Kroger Little Clinic, and the surveys, you will also receive a $50 grocery card at the end of the yearlong program.
